Discover a slice of history

The station has a unique Homestead that was designed in 1916 by the Architect/Priest Monsignor John Hawes. It is the only privately owned residence that he designed that was ever built in Australia and it is also his first commission in the area before any of his churches were built.

A truly unique experience

It is the only one of his buildings, at the moment, that allows visitors to stay in the homestead and experience this extraordinary man’s design ability.

We arrived late afternoon and were welcomed with the smell of the wood for in the cookhouse. The fire was roaring, warming the social area and ready for cooking.
The Cottage accomodation was very good and glamping in the Bell tents is something else indeed. I especially loved the integration of the native plants and log borders throughout the station’s ample campgrounds.

Hubby and I stayed at the beautiful Melangata Homestead for 3 nights. One could not have wished for better hosts than Ken and Jo (and of course Billy and Jura, the dogs)
We loved everything about our stay, the clean, comfortable accommodation, lovely bathroom and shower with lots of hot water and very comfortable king size bed and fluffy pillows.

The owner is extremely knowledgeable about the area, plants, and bush tucker. Jo can teach you how to spot Aboriginal artefacts, cook up an amazing feast in a camp oven, or tell you about little-known places in the area to visit. Like Australia’s smallest meteorite crater, or the largest gallery of Aboriginal rock art in WA. She hangs out at the campfire and is always happy to chat.
